Many of the names listed in the original post, plus those mentioned in comments being added by readers, have still managed to forge careers in the Premiership – allegedly the top of the English club game – despite not being very good footballers.

If there are any doubts that English football is suffering as a result of too much money being thrown about, then the fact that many of these players are millionaires is possibly all the proof you need.
