Quite possibly the most bizarre story of the week – and it is only Monday – is the woman who tried to fake her own death just to get out of a speeding ticket.
When she received a summons for driving her car at 41mph in a 30mph zone, the woman from Swansea pretended to be her daughter and wrote to the court saying her mother had died in a car crash.
But when the police’s suspicions were raised, they tracked her down to her home. As well as a six month jail sentence, suspended for 12 months, the woman was given a 12 month supervision order.
I’m sure death has been used in mitigation in court before, but it still needs to be proved in order to be successful.
