I have no real interest whether Boris Johnson stands and indeed wins the election to succeed Ken Livingstone as Mayor of London.
It is, at best, an intriguing sideshow for the vast majority of the population who do not live in the English capital.
But it is for that reason that I wish him well. The Conservative MP is not exactly a force in British politics, but he does manage to inject the sort of wit and wisdom that is so depressingly thin on the ground.
I think this from The Guardian sums up why British politics needs Boris.
Whether such insightful comments are enough to sway the Mayoral vote remains to be seen.
Ultimately, however, I believe the people of London should get the Mayor they deserve.
