An over-confident Japanese customs officer has handed over 142g to an unsuspecting air passenger after a test involving a sniffer dog went badly wrong.

The officer placed the package of drugs in a randomly selected piece of luggage at Tokyo’s Narita airport.

The plan was to test security procedures and give the sniffer dog a realistic scenario – rather than the usual dummy piece of luggage.

Alas, the dog’s nose failed and so did the customer officer’s memory – he forgot which bag he’d placed the cannabis in.

The authorities in Japan have now appealed for the luggage owner to come forward and hand over the cannabis package.

Oh dear.

Paul, as you know I am a great fan of airports and their safety procedures.

Not everyone knows what cannabis looks like (what does it look like?) so maybe the unsuspecting passenger – on unpacking – has already dropped the weed into the bin, wondering how on earth that shit got into his case.

    I love the detail: 142 g.

Ursula: The devil is in the detail. I was considering including a photograph of some cannabis, but decided against corrupting any younger (or older) readers by giving them a few clues of what to look for.

What would have happened if the person was nabbed later on the way home with cannabis in their position. What a stupid thing for a customs officer to do really.
