Oxfam has launched a new campaign to highlight the problem of poverty in the UK, which has become more acute as our economy has moved into recession.
It has come up with a six-point rescue plan to help the growing army of FREDs n the UK.
In a report released to accompany the campaign, Close to Home – UK Poverty and the Economic Downturn, Oxfam calls on the government to help the poor.
And a survey reveals only 4% of the adult population believes the Government has done enough to help those who have lost their jobs in recent months.
The charity is critical of Government action to date for concentrating too much on providing aid to the financial sector and failing to offer similar levels of assistance to others.
